A Little History

Saline Boy Scout Troop 446 is the oldest troop in Saline! It has been operating since 1925, although the troop number has changed over the years. You may remember us as Troop 46, Troop 23, or even Troop 1.

We celebrate our 80th Anniversary on February 8, 2005 at the Christ Our King Lutheran Church. We start at 7:00 PM.

Our Scoutmaster

Our Scoutmaster is Mr. James Fuller. He can be reached at 734-944-2705 or

On 16 September 2003, Saline Boy Scout Troop 446 honored its former Scoutmaster with the James E. West Fellowship Award. It is a national endowment fund award that allows scout units to recognize the efforts of Scouters. Mr West showed the same spirit and dedication to Scouting as James E. West, a founder and leader of the Boy Scouts of America for more than 30 years.

Mr. Harold West and his wife, Phyllis, have been involved with Boy Scout Troop 446 for more than 35 years. Harold became Scoutmaster in 1962 and served for 33 years. During those years 35 young men earned the Eagle Award, including their son, Ron West. The present Scoutmaster of Troop 446, Mr. Bob Heskett, got his Eagle Award when Harold was his Scoutmaster.

Scouting was a family affair. In his youth Harold was a Boy Scout. Harold's daughter was the Troop Committee Secretary for her father until she moved away, then his wife, Phyllis, took up the job of Troop Committee Secretary. Their son, Ron, was a Boy Scout. Harold worked for many years at the A&P grocery store in Saline. He has lived in the Saline area for 49 years.

Harold went to the Philmont National Scout Reservation 2 times and attended 3 National Scout Jamborees.

Scouting, Conservation, and the Environment
