Artist Pin

Pretty quick and easy to do. It was partially done in the den. My comments here are mostly where to get materials.

First question: Is there anything that came home from school that can be used? Clay items or paintings, for instance?

If you need a great resource, try The Scrap Box for cheap neat stuff by the bagful. The address is 521 State Circle, the phone is 994-4420. Hours are 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and group events by appointment. Directions: Take I-94 to Briarwood/State St. exit, turn left and go south over I-94. The first street on the right, at the Union 76 gas station is State Circle; turn right and go to the second building behind the gas station. The place has a big yellow sign. (Note: If you go past McDonalds or Chi Chi's on State St., you've missed the turnoff.)

#1. Easy frames can be made from popsicle/craft sticks or from the backside of cereal box cardboard. Paint or color, then tape or glue picture behind frame. For more ideas, go down to The Scrap Box and browse around.

#4. Draw a profile. See the handbook. If you don't have big paper, tape squares of typing paper together and put on the wall. Or maybe you can get white butcher paper from Meijer's meat/fish counter or the sheets from Frank's Nursery that they wrap around big potted plants and bouquets to protect them. The Scrapbox sells leftover rolls of big paper, cheap.

#5. Make a plastic or clay sculpture. You can get a small container of self-drying plastic modeling compound at Walmart, Meijers (sometimes), Office Depot, etc. in the art and office supplies aisle (it's a little pricey - make a small object). You can get oven-drying clay ($8 for 2 lbs, but it will serve a whole den or can be used for Craftsman projects, too) at Frank's Nursery or Michael's Crafts (in the TARGET/Oak Valley strip mall). Sometimes, you can find plain old kids' play clay at Meijers or Walmart (but good luck getting it when you need it).

#7. Make a construction. Our house has enough junk to supply materials for this for bunches of kids. If you don't, go visit The Scrap Box.
