Citizen Pin

Pretty quick and easy. Everything you need is in the handbook.

This was done in the den in my son's case. It's one of the pins every Cub Scout must earn to receive the Arrow of Light award. Here are some more suggestions.

#8. Visit a community leader. You might call the Augusta or Ypsilanti Township office. They are pretty laid back. Ask if the township clerk or superintendent or a commissioner would talk to your son or to the den about what they do. Maybe you could go to the tail-end of an evening meeting ( I doubt kids can stand a whole meeting) and talk to the person then.

#12. Tell three laws you obeyed this week. The discussion at our house included: put on your seat belt, obey traffic signals, cross the street with the light, don't jaywalk, don't litter, take old toxic chemicals to the recycling station at the fire house, get a permit before you have big brush fires.

#13. Tell why we have government and ways we help pay for it. This prompted a discussion of income, property, sales, and gasoline taxes and what they get used for. Also state park entrance fees, driver's license and license plate fees, fishing license fees, postage stamps.

#15. List 3 nonreligious organizations that help people and tell about one of them. Beside the Cub Scout handbook, try looking in the Yellow Pages under Organizations, and subheadings like Community, Military and Veteran, Social Service,Youth.

#16. Alone or with the den, do a special good turn. How about collecting for the pack's canned goods drive, for the mitten tree, doing a neighborhood or park litter pickup, caroling at a nursing home?
