Great Sauk Trail Council

Munhacke District

Sportsman Pin

#1. Show the signals used by officials in one of the games listed. See the handbook. Watch a game on TV or at an event to see the signals in action. Council sends flyers out all the time about Cub Scout nights at professional and college games in the area, and some of them are even cheap, though not many. Going to a high school game would work too, and probably so would a L.A.Y.A. game.

#2. Explain what good sportsmanship means. See the handbook. There's also a write-up in the booklet
you can get from Council that goes with the Sports Pin for Physical Fitness.

#3. Earn two belt loops for individual sports. The pack roller skating party counts for a skating loop. If you did the Fitness Pin, you can get a belt loop for physical fitness. You can buy marbles from Big Lots or The Dollar Store for $1.00. Or ride your bike. Or go swimming at the high school pool at Open Swim. Rent cross-country skis at Rolling Hills County Park on Stony Creek Road. Just know the rules of the sport and play it for 30 minutes. Get a book of sports rules from the library.

Fairly simple belt loops to do as a den: Swimming at Lincoln pool, Volleyball at open gym on Sat. or Sun. (call ahead so they put up a net for you and get out the balls), marbles, basketball at open gym, bowling, Ultimate on the disc golf course at Rolling Hills.
This was easy, except for the part where I drove my son to endless soccer practices and games, but I would have done that anyway, so I guess I'm glad something additional came out of it.

#4. Earn two belt loops for team sports. Again, know the rules of the game and play the game for 30 minutes. You don't have to join a L.A.Y.A. team, but if you're on one, it counts. You could play basketball in the driveway. If you play volleyball or badminton at a company picnic or family reunion, count it. Get a book of sports rules at the library. A very good book at the Ypsilanti library is The Official World Encyclopedia of Sports and Games by The Diagram Group, Paddington Press, Ltd. New York C 1979.
